Lateral files offer the best solution where you have wall space, but not much floor space, such as files along the wall in an open office filled with cubicles, in a private office, or in a wide hallway. All lateral files come 18"-19" deep (front to back) and 30", 36" or 42" wide.

 

Hanging files may be arranged in a drawer either in one long row going from one side to the other,

or in two or three row going from the front to back of the drawer.  The 42" drawer is the best for this, as it allows for three rows front to back.
